Gamblin Artists Colours Company is dedicated to oil painting. For more than twenty years, Gamblin has invested in the best quality production machinery that transforms the finest quality pigments and oils in to luscious, rich artist oil paints. By personally controlling quality standards for his oil painting materials, rather than copy any other style of paint making, Robert Gamblin developed his own.

Gamblin Artists’ Oils have the best qualities of traditionally made oils paints, combined with the latest technical innovations, to give the ultimate working properties. The Artists’ Oil range spans from historically accurate paints to modern, synthetically derived hues. These are made from the finest quality raw materials, bringing best in each pigment, and staying true to historic working properties of each colour. Doing this means brings together pigment, oil, history science and even emotions.

The Gamblin Artists’ Oil Colour range is made up of two different types of paints: the ‘mineral inorganic colour’ selection and the ‘modern organic colour’ selection.

  • Mineral Inorganic Colours - Made from metals such as cadmium, cobalt. These oil colours have high pigment load and low oil absorption. The colours easily grey-down in mixtures and are excellent for painting natural colours and light. The ‘mineral inorganic colour’ selection is composed of mainly opaque paints with a few semi-transparent and transparent colours.
  • Modern Organic Colours - Made from organic carbon-based pigments. Most of these paint pigments are available in a warm and cool version (e.g., Phthalo Green, Phthalo Emerald). Gamblin organic colours are the best choice for high key painting and bright tints. The ‘modern organic colour’ selection is composed of mainly transparent paints with some semi-transparent colours.

Non-Toxic and Luscious Texture -

Gamblin Artist Oil Colour are formulated using pure pigments having luscious texture, texture that supports the work and responses to artist’s intensions with or without medium and are completely non-toxic. No adulterants are used in the process, so each colour retains its unique characteristics of tinting strength, undertone, and texture.

Oil Binder -

Most of the oils in the range are made with alkali-refined linseed oil binder and the others with a safflower oil binder. Compared with cold press linseed oil (a traditional oil paint binder), alkali-refined linseed oil yellows significantly less whilst also creating a strong, flexible paint film. Linseed oil naturally dries faster than other oils and retains greater strength and flexibility as it ages. Paler safflower oil is used in some colours, most notably white. Not only are both vegetable oils completely non-toxic, but they are also both used in moisturizers, cooking oils, food, and vitamins.
