Pebeo Extra Fine Auxiliaries - Medium for Oil Colours
Pebeo’s range of mediums is designed to cater specific roles in oil painting. Added to the colour these mediums can change its structure, brightness and transparency. Mediums allow the paste to be extended.
Courtrai Siccative - Composed of zirconium octoate and calcium. Siccatives are derived from metal salts. It accelerates the drying time on the surface as well as in deep films. It allows thick coats to harden evenly. It is very powerful and must be controlled with care. Being colourless, it does not alter light colours and is very efficient for blacks and lacquers. It can be thinned or cleaned using mineral spirits or turpentine.
Fragonard Gel Medium - Brilliant, transparent, fluid medium for oil colours. Made from a base of alkyd and acrylic resins and polyamide wax, it enhances the adhesion of the paint layers and accelerates the drying time of colours. It stands out from the rest of the mediums of Pebeo by having more body. It makes the colour more fluid without losing its reactivity. It is used primarily in the surface coats and gives an exceptionally brilliant glaze.
Dutch Medium - Brilliant, transparent, semi-paste medium that gives exceptional possibilities. Made from a base of alkyd and acrylic resins, it dries by oxidation and practically never yellows. When used in small quantities it gives a richer look to the colours along with stiffness for working precisely.
Heavy Gel - Translucent gel medium composed of alkyd resin, siccative oil and aluminium silicate hydrate. It gives a light satin finish to colours and also extends colours for economy of use. If used in good measure it gives bright and lively work and a colour which responds to all needs. The Pebeo Heavy gel can be mixed with colours up to 50% for obtaining an economical paste without losing consistency.
Coating Medium - Thick, matt, opaque paste made from polyurethane resin, aluminium silicate hydrate and beeswax. Often used alone, this paste enables working in strong thicknesses and creating reliefs which can then be simply painted over. If combined with colour at a ratio of more than 50%, it creates a matt clouded effect. It can be made suppler and softer with the addition of the Florentine Medium.
