Jacquard Silk Colours are a fun and easy way to create beautiful, professional-looking hand-painted silk clothing and art. These are liquid dyes used primarily for direct application silk painting. Because they are true dyes Jacquard Silk Colours do not stiffen the fabric at all and the natural lustre of the silk shines through. These intense, rich, translucent colours may be blended directly on fabric or intermixed separately to create an infinite range of colours.
The range consists of 20 intermixable colours the essential colours for an infinite palette of vivid hues or dilute with water for softer shades. Unlike European silk colours (which tend to be liquid acid dyes), Jacquard’s Silk Colours are modified fibre-reactive dyes. This allows for easier setting, better lightfastness, and maximum wash fastness. These are odourless, non-toxic and can be hand washed or dry cleaned.
RED Label dyes are mid-energy fiber-reactive dyes that are concentrated for economy, making them especially well-suited for professional artists and production studios. These are exceptionally versatile and wash fast dyes for painting and printing applications on silk and other natural fabrics. Red Label Silk Colours are ideal for traditional silk painting, as well as for many specialty applications, such as discharge, chemical resist, printing and shibori. They MUST BE SET WITH STEAM for about one hour. They can be used on any natural fibre including silk, cotton, rayon and more.
Dyes must be diluted at least 1:1 with water or chemical water before using (For use on cotton, urea and sodium bicarbonate or soda ash are recommended). Easily thicken with sodium alginate or another natural thickener. Allow painted or printed pieces to dry completely before steam setting. Colour will brighten after steaming. Colours that have not been diluted sufficiently may bleed in initial rinse. To eliminate risk of back staining in these circumstances use of fixative in the rinse bath.
