Gamblin Galkyd Medium thins oil colours and increases transparency and gloss. It is an alkyd resin painting medium that increases the fluidity of oil colours and speeds their drying time.

Gamblin mediums are formulate a range of contemporary painting mediums based on alkyd resin made from soybean oil, rather than damar for two main reasons. First, damar resin increases in colour as it ages (especially when used alone as a final varnish) and imparts its inherent brittleness to paint layers. Alkyd resin, derived from soy oil, gives both strength and flexibility to paint layers.

Second, damar requires strong solvents like turpentine when formulating mediums. Alkyd resin can be formulated into mediums using a mild solvent such as Gamsol, or no solvent at all.

Galkyd Medium - Thins oil colours and increases transparency and gloss. When used in greater proportions with oil colour, Galkyd will level brushstrokes, creating an enamel-like surface. Galkyd is fastest-drying painting medium. Thin layers will be touch-dry in approximately 24 hours. The viscosity of Galkyd is similar to traditional painting mediums made from linseed stand oil.

Galkyd Lite - Thins oil colours and increases transparency and gloss. When used in moderation with oil colours, Galkyd Lite will retain brushstrokes. Galkyd Lite is more fluid and less glossy compared to Galkyd. Thin layers will be touch-dry in 24 to 30 hours.

Galkyd Slow Dry - Thins oil colours and extends working time. Galkyd Slow Dry is more fluid and less glossy than Galkyd Lite. Use one-part Galkyd Slow Dry to one part oil colours to paint wet-into-wet for at least a day.

Galkyd Gel - "G-Gel" Made from alkyd resin, Galkyd Gel is a colourless oil colour additive that accelerates the drying rate of oil colours and enables artists to create thick transparent paintings with a moderate sheen. Stiffer gel compared to Neo Megilp that holds thicker, sharper brush marks and dries more quickly. Galkyd Gel increases transparency of oil colours and creates impasto.
