Winsor & Newton Oil Colour Mediums
Winsor & Newton Oil Mediums are prepared additives that alter or enhance the characteristics of the colour. They are used to change the rate of drying, increase gloss, improve flow, provide texture, etc. Mediums are prepared using the same binders and vehicles used in milling the colour: linseed oil, alkyd resin, and modified oils for water mixability. Traditional oil based mediums are made from a combination of oil and solvents, while the alkyd based mediums combine synthetic alkyd resins and solvents.
Artists' Painting Medium - slow drying, gloss medium which is ideal for fine detail work, glazing and smoothly blended areas with no brush marks. It reduces consistency and improves flow. It's suitable for oiling out and enriching dull patches and is resistant to yellowing.
Blending & Glazing Medium - slows drying & improves flow. It is ideal for blending, glazing, stroke work, antiquing and staining. It improves transparency and depth. Dries to a durable gloss finish.
Liquin Original - reliable favourite, formerly known simply as 'Liquin'. It is a general purpose semi gloss medium which speeds drying, improves flow & transparency. Reduces brush stroke retention. It is also suitable for textured oil techniques. Liquin Original halves the drying time of conventional oil colours, resulting in a touch dry time of 1 to 6 days depending on climate, colours used & film thickness. It resists yellowing.
Liquin Fine Detail - most fluid of the Liquin family of products. It is a quick drying gloss medium that is ideal for fine detailed work, glazing & blending, for producing a smooth surface picture or in smoothly blended areas where brush marks are not desired. Speeds drying depending on the proportions added.
Liquin Light Gel - quick drying gloss medium that offers a slight gel like structure that brushes out smoothly and is ideal for artists looking for a non-drip effect when mixed with colour. It is ideal for glazing, and dries to a gloss film that has an increased resistance to yellowing. Speeds drying depending on the proportions added.
Liquin Impasto Medium - semi-gloss, quick drying, non-yellowing impasto medium which thickens slowly & extends the tube colour retaining crisp textures and brush strokes without any visible leveling. Speeds drying depending on the proportions added.
Oleopasto Medium - semi matt, quick drying, non-yellowing impasto medium which has a soft gel like consistency with some brush drag. When added to paint, Liquin Oleopasto extends tube color and thickens rapidly. Speeds drying depending on the proportions added. Ideal for providing bulk in impasto and texture work and leveling crisp brush marks.
